You
are invited to a special pre-sale producer meeting Monday
night at
7:00.
This will be held at the sale barn facilities just west
of Burlington, Colorado. We plan to provide cookies and
coffee. There will be no charge to attend this very informative
meeting. Everyone is invited.
Our featured guest speaker
will be Jim Gerrish. Jim is considered to be the leading
expert
in Management-intensive
Grazing (MiG). In fact, Jim invented the term Management-intensive
Grazing. Jim’s experience includes over 20 years
of beef-forage systems research and outreach while
on the faculty of the University of Missouri, as well
as 20 years of commercial cattle and sheep production
on his family farm in northern Missouri. His research
encompassed many aspects of plant-soil-animal interactions
and provided the foundation for many of the basic principles
of MiG.
Jim and his wife, Dawn,
now live in Idaho. Their business, American GrazingLands
Services
is dedicated
to helping farmers and ranchers to more effectively
manage their grazing lands for economic and environmental
sustainability. They provide on-ranch consulting services
and participate in many workshops and seminars across
the US and Canada. They are also suppliers of electric
fence and water system products.
Jim’s always been a big supporter and promoter of our program and our
cattle. However, he knows it will take more than just having the right genetics
to make it in this business. Last fall, Jim told me, “It is always in
our best interest to get every bit of sunshine captured on every acre we control
to keep costs down. are a lot of guys out there buying your bulls who will
still never make it if they don’t get back to the fundamental basics
of capturing solar energy.”
We agree with Jim 100%!
That’s
why we have invited him to speak at this special meeting.
The era
of cheap grain and cheap fuel is over. Times have changed.
What has worked for the past 10 years won’t work
for the next 10 years. Those who are quickest to adapt
and change will be in the driver’s seat. Those
who are slow to change will be left behind or run over.
