Comments: Henry Meyer continues to do what they say can’t be done in North Dakota. His PCC-bred cows went 12 years without being fed any hay — until last year’s brutal winter. Henry was forced to feed hay last winter for 80 to 100 days. Having a herd of crossbred cows has given Henry a definite advantage. Crossbred cows have always been able to do more for less. These heifers are 3/4 Angus and 1/4 Tarentaise. I have always loved cows that are 1/4 to 1/2 Tarentaise. They are the most productive, fertile and long-lasting cows we have ever worked with. These heifers were sired by top-sort PCC Angus bulls. They have been pasture-bred to calving-ease sons and grandsons of the great Moderator bull. Moderator was the “king of calving ease.” He died two years ago at age 13.

Comments: This set of heifers is very similar to the previous group. The only difference is that these heifers are 5/8 Angus and 3/8 Tarentaise. They have a touch more Tarentaise breeding. Like the previous group, these heifers were sired by top-sort PCC Angus bulls. They have been pasture-bred to calving-ease sons and grandsons of the great Moderator bull. Older sisters to these good crossbred heifers have been used to build cowherds in Montana, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, West Virginia and Alabama. We sold 65 sisters in our 2008 fall sale for an average price of $1300.
