Energizer is a powerhouse of a Tarentaise bull. He is black, polled and purebred. Energizer is definitely the most impressive Tarentaise bull we have ever owned. He is a very masculine bull with extreme thickness and muscling on a moderate sized frame. Energizer also excels in fleshing ability, which is very rare within the Tarentaise breed. As a 9-year old, he still has excellent feet and leg structure. Great disposition! Energizer and his offspring tend to be the first to shed off in the spring, which is indicative of adaptability. Some of our best forage-tested bulls have been sired by him. Energizer crosses very well with Angus-cross cows. We do not recommend using him on first-calf heifers. Co-owned with Bob Crane and Ron Barnett. |

| Black Bonus is a black, polled, 75% Tarentaise bull. At $4500, he was our high selling Tarentaise bull in our 2001 Bull Sale. He was a top-performer in our forage test. Black Bonus is an extremely heavy-muscled, moderate-framed bull with a tremendous amount of depth and spring of rib. Most of today’s Tarentaise are tall, slab-sided, hard-keeping cattle that have a difficult time surviving in a real-world environment — but not so with this stout bull. Black Bonus is an Energizer son out of a very nice Composite cow that weighs less than 1100 pounds. Pharo Cattle Company is using this bull to produce Composite cattle that are 3/8 Tarentaise. Black Bonus is co-owned with Toby Foland in Wyoming. |

Achilles is a polled, purebred bull that sires calves with thickness and eye appeal, as well as a little extra performance and size. Few Tarentaise bulls combine this much growth, muscle and thickness with a negative birth weight EPD. Prior to the severe 1999 to 2004 drought in eastern Colorado, Achilles produced many of our top-selling Tarentaise and Composite bulls. The drought forced us to sell many of our Tarentaise and Composite cows. We sold this bull at that time too. Daughters of Achilles have proven to be efficient and productive females. He works very well on Hereford/Angus type cows. We have a limited semen inventory on Achilles, and are willing to sell it at a discounted price until it is gone. |

Black-Out is a polled, purebred bull
that has been DNA tested to be homozygous black. That means every
one of his calves should be black. If you like them black, this is
the bull to use. Black-Out is a bigger framed maternal brother to
Black Bubba. Limited semen inventory — only 52 straws left. Take them
all for only $6/straw. |
Sudden Impact is a black, polled, purebred
bull with superior performance. His calves consistently weaned at
the top end of our calf crop. Sudden Impact is a long bodied, clean-fronted,
slick-haired Tarentaise bull. His calves start out small and seem
to literally explode when they hit the ground. Limited semen inventory. |

Black Bubba is a son of the highly proven calving ease
bull, Polled Bubba. The last we heard, Polled Bubba was still breeding
cows at age 14. Black Bubba is a very thick, black and polled purebred
bull. He is very fertile and potent. At 10 months of age he produced
an amazing 270 units of semen in a single day. Limited semen inventory. |
Captain
went through our forage program and sold in our 1999 Bull Sale. We
collected him because we had a request for a calving ease Tarentaise
bull. Captain had a 69 pound birth weight. He is double bred for calving
ease, but we still suggest you exercise caution when using a Tarentaise
bull on first-calf heifers. Limited semen inventory. |

Tarentaise
is a continental breed that originated in the French Alps. They are
noted for their fertility, milk production, meat-to-bone ratio and
excellent udder conformation. Compared to the British breeds, Tarentaise
tend to have higher growth rates and higher milk production, as well
as produce a leaner carcass. Compared to most of the other Continental
(exotic) breeds, they excel in calving ease and fertility, while having
a smaller, more efficient mature size. Tarentaise is the most moderate-sized
exotic breed that we know of. We had studied most of the other exotic breeds before we chose to invest in the Tarentaise breed. We were looking for something that could compliment our red and black baldy cows without sacrificing anything. The best cows we have ever owned have been 25% to 50% Tarentaise, with the balance being Red or Black Angus and Hereford. Not only do they wean our biggest calves, they also maintain great condition year-round and have our highest breed-back rate. My only concern is that most Tarentaise breeders no longer produce the right type of cattle. |
